My philosophy
For me the main value of science is the understanding it provides -- of nature, the world, the universe and our place in all that. Searching for and finding understanding makes us grow and become more. Almost nothing is more important. Equally, understanding contributes more when shared.
Science is most effective when it's public and free. This is hardly a radical idea, it has always been the standard attitude among scientists anyway. Which means that publicly communicating science to benefit the understanding of others -- the role of science communicators -- is central to the process and nearly as important as the research itself.
Science has lost its focus: it's becoming less about understanding and
sharing, more about profit. Meanwhile amateur and non-profit groups, once so central to science, now make smaller and smaller contributions most of which is barely heard. I am and have always been passionate about the real value of science which is public
understanding. I want to remain involved in the adventure I love, and to help bring back some of the understanding and excitement.
This is why I may be willing to donate my time and energies to help publicise your project.
